Alien Stadium is a collaborative mini-album between Steve Mason and Primal Scream's Martin Duffy. As the picture suggests, it is four-tracks of out-there concept-rock, following a storyline about an alien invasion. They are "pisshead" aliens, explain the duo. This is the opener, its cosmic groove setting the intergalactic tone.

The brainchild of Cardiff native Davey Newington, Boy Azooga make psychedelic indie-rock with a playful groove. This debut release for Heavenly Recordings is a homage to Nigerian funk icon William Onyeabor. It also sounds a bit like Foals doing a conga.

The former frontman of psychedelic Welsh folk-rockers Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, Euros Childs is now a prolific solo artist who has retained his unique brand of excellent strangeness. This track from his forthcoming 13th solo album is a catchy paean to the kitchen utensil no-one can do without when it comes to draining things.

Leeds psych-rock quartet Hookworms will release their third album, Microshift, in February 2018. It's been on regular rotation on the Q office stereo and this is the propulsive excellent first cut from it.

MGMT's first single in four years is a bewitching slice of gothic electronic-pop. Little Dark Age, the title track from their forthcoming fourth album (it's due out early next year), is accompanied by a sinister video directed by David MacNutt and Nathaniel Axel.

Halifax trio The Orielles are in thrall to the jingle jangle of mid-‘80s indie-pop. Their debut album stitches together all the best bits while mercifully circumnavigating any hints of tweeness, as you can hear on the whoah-oh-ohh powered whoosh of Let Your Dogtooth Grow.
