Name: The Leisure SocietyTrack name: Colombia

Hometown: London

Who? Nick Hemming, Christian Hardy, Mike Siddell, Helen Whitaker, Sebastian Hankins and Jon Cox.

Why now? The band are actually recording a new album, but finished this track in time for the World Cup’s kick off, and Q has the premiere. The song concerns itself Columbia’s ill-faited run in 1994, which ended with defeat, drug lords and murder. “This song is about the togetherness and pride – as well as the pressure – that I imagine that exciting group of footballers must have felt, before it all went horribly wrong,” Nick Hemming. “We’ll certainly be cheering ‘Roy’s Boys’ over the coming days, but if England falter we’re backing Colombia all the way!” To bolster their Columbian credentials, violinist Mike Siddell was actually born in Colombia and his dad taught the ex-Colombian goalkeeper, Farit Mondragon, in primary school.
