Eminem was the star of the show when the rapper's beloved Detroit Lions faced the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Jan. 14.
The excitement spilled over to social media the following morning.
"Love waking up and my timeline is full of new Eminem content," one person said on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
His involvement with the game, which the Lions won 24-23, began the day before. NBC's Sunday Night Football shared a video message the musician recorded for Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who spent 12 seasons playing for Detroit.
"Can you just let us have this one?" Eminem asked in the clip posted to X.
"You owe me this favor, bro," the rapper said, alluding to his performance during the halftime show at the 2017 Super Bowl, which Stafford lost to the New England Patriots during his first season with the Rams.
"I was there for you when you won it. I was there for you. I was right there. I rapped for you, Stafford. Bro, I rapped for you!"
Eminem also recorded the intro to a hype video for the Lions, which may have helped the team score its first home playoff win since 1991. The Lions' jumbotron captured a clip of the rapper wildly waving his arms around.
"Eminem having the time of his life at the lions vs rams game," said the X user who shared the video.
Detroit will now face either the Philadelphia Eagles or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next week.
Eminem's appearance also opened up a dialogue about Taylor Swift's high-profile presence at NFL games this season. The pop star's boyfriend Travis Kelce is the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. While her fans have been loving it, many football fans allege that Swift's presence has created a distraction.
"Can anyone help me find all the angry men mad at Eminem for being a distraction in Detroit last night? I can’t seem to find any," one person tweeted.
"One game vs every single game.. big difference," another user replied.
A different commenter displayed the intense anger some NFL fans are harboring toward a woman supporting her boyfriend at work.
"First excuse, he’s a real fan of football," they said. "Second, he’s not sleeping with someone on the team. Third, he’s really from Detroit and it’s not the same thing. They really cannot see beyond their hypocrisy."
Eminem was born in Missouri and moved to the Detroit area at age 12. The rapper spent time living on the city's East Side and a nearby inner-ring suburb called Warren.
The rapper's public identity is very tied up with his roots in the city. The title of 2002's 8 Mile, a highly fictionalized but loosely autobiographical movie starring Eminem, is a reference to the road that runs along Detroit's northern border.
Every studio album the musician has released since 2000's The Marshall Mathers LP made it to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. Eminem is also known for his hit singles including "The Real Slim Shady," "Lose Yourself" and "Not Afraid."
