With reissues and exhibition Chasing The Sun, Oasis are gearing up to mark 20th years since the release of Definitely Maybe in style this year. However it’s not just their party, the tribute band Noasis are celebrating too. Ahead of playing Britpop night Bowl With It at London’s Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes tomorrow (28 March), the band’s manager Wayne Todd looks back at Casting A Shadow.
We are Noasis, five die-hard fans of Manchester’s finest, Oasis. We have loved their music from day one and as musicians we learnt our instruments playing along to their first two albums; then once we could play the chords we just wanted to get out there and play the songs – we had no idea it would still be going in 2014!
Formed by die-hard Oasis fans back in 2006 we have been touring for years now and it just gets better. And in some ways our career has been very similar to Oasis.
Take the Isle of Wight Festival last year. “Liam” has been on a bender, he’s wearing a totally different outfit to the one he was wearing last night when we lost him. He’s been up all night – he’s smashed – and we’re on stage in two hours. Sound familiar? There’s no knowing how it will go tonight but we find the marquee is rammed and more, they are right up for it and “R Kid” is on top form. We fookin’ rocked that place . It’s all about the crowd response, this is why we do it, there’s nothing like a big crowd that‘s really buzzed up!
We’ve met some of the actual Oasis lads along the way too which is always a bit surreal. We know Bonehead the best, he’s a top bloke, always up for a party and a laugh. We always try and get the inside info on Oasis when we’ve plied him with a few beers but his lips are always sealed on that subject.
it never gets boring playing those songs as there is such a huge catalogue to choose from. Things can get a bit weird too, like when your child is born on the same day as Noel’s and The Sun newspaper is all over it…
The Oasis 20 year anniversary has got the promoters busy and we are playing some top shows this year. Life on the road is pretty much how you would imagine it, a journey of hopes and dreams, highs and lows, love and hate, passion and apathy, loyalty and betrayal and above all absurd comedy…
