boygenius, the supergroup trio of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus, have revealed that a four-song EP 'The Rest' is launching on October 13. In addition to the tour dates in progress, the group presented their video for "Cool About It" on September 6 from their debut The Record.

On Monday night, just over a dozen songs into the 22-song setlist at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway, the group (with Baker on lead vocals) saw the debut of 'Black Hole' from the forthcoming EP. The band has described The Rest as a "companion" to The Record. With that said, the band further revealed that the EP was produced by themselves, with Tony Berg, Jake Finch, Ethan Gruska, Calvin Lauber, Collin Pastore, and Marshall Vore.

The power trio has been riding a music high since The Record hit the charts in March. Further to cement their industry reputation, the predictions buzz for Grammy nominations could have The Record slotted in the Album of The Year category.
In a year that saw the overwhelming return of well-established groups (The Rolling Stones, Blink-182, Paramore) and artists (PJ Harvey, Janelle Monáe, Killer Mike) — some reemerging from long overdue hiatus — boygenius is among the few select to get enthusiastic converts in a first-wave generation. All three had established solo musical careers, with Bridgers the most visible within the group. However, the women bonded together out of love and mutual respect for what they could bring together as a band.
Ironically it was Bridgers who sent out the signals to her collaborators that a get-together would be in the offing after the release of their brief self-titled EP in 2018. In 2023, the "boys" (as they call themselves) have helped to uplift a dormant spirit in music today. While Taylor Swift has graduated from music high school and dominates with a world power force (she's also a huge supporter of boygenius), the trio somehow temper their sadness lyrically by unleashing the vocal prowess of people who know a thing or two about life. Maybe more.
The trio will continue with their tour (with five of the six remaining dates sold out) including the big one, Madison Square Garden until October 31.
