After spending the earlier part of 2023 on the road in support of their new album, The Hypnogogue, The Church have mapped out the dates for the next stage of their tour. Before actually taking the stage again, however, the band has released a new single, "Realm of Minor Angels."

Oh, and just in case you aren't familiar with the track listing of the aforementioned album (although you really should be, because it's fantastic), no, this song isn't on the record. It's a real new single, one that's never been released before.

The latest line-up of The Church prepare to hit the road again.

Now in their fifth decades as a band, The Church still make the same kind of shimmering, semi-psychedelic songs that they've been doing since they first made the scene with their debut single, 1980's "She Never Said."

In the press release for "Realm of Minor Angels," frontman Steve Kilbey heaped praise on the track, calling it "without doubt one of my favorite singles The Church has ever released."

“From the moment [guitarist] Jeffrey Cain started playing the opening riff, I was hooked," Kilbey continued. "The singing and lyrics are my own subtle homage to the torch songs of the ‘60s and check out Ian Haug’s mandolin lines and Ashley Naylor’s slide work!”

Okay, granted, he's a little close to the subject, but having listened to it ourselves, we can assure you that he's spot-on with his implication that it's an instant Church classic.
