With Unknown Mortal Orchestra returning with new album Multi-Love next week (25 May) – plus they play Barcelona’s Primavera Sound that week (30) – Ruban Neilson from the New Zealand band has answered five questions, fancy that…
Who would play you in the film of your life?
Somebody ugly. Actors in biopics are always too good looking.
What are you currently working on?
Me and my brother are working on a split seven-inch vinyl single for later in the year. We’ve messed up each other’s songs. Me butchering his song for one side and him butchering my song for the other. It sounds really good. Also getting ready for the Multi-Love world touring. Building a clone of the Foxx Tone Machine fuzz pedal.
Why do you do that thing you do?
All said and done I think Im addicted to the endorphin dump that happens when a musical moment of substance is manifest. On stage or in the studio. Nothing feels like that.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Hopefully behind the scenes a bit more. Working on other people’s music. Travelling around. Living by the ocean. Maybe putting out five esoteric records a year.
When will there be a harvest for the world?
When energy gets democratized the way information is now things will get pretty crazy.
