East London multi-venue festival Visions returns to the capital on 6 August. Bird On the Wire promoters who have been booking the bands, Clemence Godard and Tim Palmer, have made Q a playlist of some of their personal picks to guide you through this year’s bill
Young Fathers – Shame
“White Men Are Black Men Too was a set of consistent bangers, and this is probably our favourite. The percussion on this one is very cool because it’s so weird and subtle but simultaneously pretty relentless.”
Ulrika Spacek – Strawberry Glue
“Totally dreamy, and we love the interweaving guitar parts on the verse which sound like weird chime-y church bells or something. Expecting great things from this band!”
Gengahr – She’s A Witch
“One of those choruses and melodies that gets stuck in your head for eternity after catching it. We really dig the super distorted vocals too.”
Anna Calvi – Blackout
“An oldie but a goodie, and we think the first song that most people would have heard, and subsequently fell in love with. And then live, she’s on a whole other level!”
The Japanese Breakfast – Everybody Wants To Love You
“A shiny gem of a song with its cascading guitar line and lyrics that celebrate the little things of a burgeoning romance. Definitely one to watch this year.”
Lightning Bolt – The Metal East
“Four minutes of crashing drums and huge bass riffs is what we’ve come to expect from Lightning Bolt and this track from their latest album Fantasy Empire lives up to these expectations.”
Bleached – Keep On Keepin’ On
These girls know how to bring the party and this fine slab of West coast punk rock will sure get things started in Hackney come August 6th!
ESG – Moody (Spaced Out)
“The album version of Moody included in the band’s 1983 debut Come Away with ESG which is an extended and spaced out disco version of the single track. And that bass line still…”
Lindstrom – Closing Shot
“This one’s been played on repeat by BBC Radio 6 lately and every time it’s queued up, we turn a very enthusiastic two thumbs up towards the radio. It’s so good! Listen out for the sweet arpeggiated synth midway.”
Iglooghost – Xiangjiao
“Brainfeeder’s latest signing Iglooghost evokes the current PC Music sound and ‘Xiangjiao’ is a gelatinous, worm shaped creature who wears a witches hat. What’s not to like!”
