Now in its third year, Electric Fields returns to Drumlanrig Castle between 26-27 August. To help you cross the musical moat, Festival director Nick Roberts picks out some of his personal favourites heading to the the Scottish castle this summer.
Primal Scream – Where The Light Gets In
“For an intimate festival in Scotland you can’t get much better than the Primals to headline, talk about an end of summer homecoming spectacular! Their new album is fantastic, it oozes cool, and as soon as I heard this track a couple of months ago I go so excited about having them. Bobby Gillespie is going to own that stage.”
The Charlatans – North Country Boy
“Modern Nature was one of my favourite albums of last year, but I’ve decided to go for a bit more of a classic from The Charlatans back catalogue. This is one of the great rock and roll tracks of modern times. I think the coolest thing about The Charlatans is how fresh they sound, whether playing old or new stuff, they’ve got such love for it.”
Wild Beasts – Mecca
“This is a really beautiful track, and when I think of Wild Beasts playing with the stunning back drop of the wild Scottish countryside this is the one tune that sticks out for me as being really special.”
The Twilight Sad – There’s a Girl In The Corner
“This is a very special band to me, and a huge amount of other people I’m sure. From the first bar of this tune at their sold out show at the Barrowlands last year every hair on the back of my neck was standing. It was an incredible show and we’re going to be in for something very special at the festival with these guys.”
Erol Alkan – A Hold On Love
“Quite simply, Erol Alkan is a music legend and I’m so pumped with have him leading the line in our dance tent, which has been expertly put together by the guys at Edinburgh’s Sneaky Pete’s. I love the thought of having some of the most forward thinking dance music around being played in the grounds of a 17th Century Scottish castle. The Sneaky Pete’s stage is going to be insanely fun.”
Steve Mason – Planet Sizes
“Steve Mason is one of Scotland’s biggest treasures, his track record speaks for itself and his latest album is nothing short of excellent. I love the expanse and feel of this track.”
Songhoy Blues – Soubour
“I’m so, so happy to have Songhoy Blues coming to Scotland for Electric Fields. Probably the band I’m most excited about seeing and with the line-up we have that’s really saying something. Utterly unique and a joy to watch live.”
Neon Waltz – Sombre Fayre
“One of the most exciting bands to come out of Scotland in recent years and I have no doubts about them being huge one day. They played the first ever Electric Fields and have since gone on to win a lot of fans, including none other than Noel Gallagher. An absolute must see!”
Horsebeach – It’s Alright
“We’re really delighted to have the Tim Burgess curated Tim Peaks area this year, he’s put together a lovely lineup, including Horsebeach. This track is such a standout and seeing it love is going to be a thrill.”
Sugarhill Gang – Rapper’s Delight
“I don’t really think I need to say anything about this. Sugarhill Gang performing arguably the most classic of hip hop tunes in a lush field in south west Scotland, that’s surely unmissable?”
