“A deep, deep record. I was 16 when I first heard it. My aunt and uncle are jazz musicians and I went to California to learn the ropes of the road with them. They sat me down, lit candles and put this record on. It was as if they were inducting me into a tribe of itinerant artists. I was floored! I’d never been in the presence of God before! It gave me a connection to the spirit of music in a really heavy way.”
