The Sussex soul man on how Roots Manuva’s 2001 album opened his eyes to UK hip-hop.

“I was heavily into hip hop when I was about 13, 14, living at home with my mum in Sussex.  I loved the Wu-Tang, Big Daddy Kane, and all that kind of stuff, then we were watching Jools Holland in 2001, and he was on there doing Dreamy Days. That was the first time I knew there was hip hop coming out of the UK. Before that, it was always seen as a bit of a joke, but when I got Run Come Save Me, it was totally its own thing, and from that moment on, I loved him as an artist. “
