David Holmes has formed a new band called Unloved with fellow soundtrack composer Keefus Ciancia and singer Jade Vincent (pictured) – and Q has the premiere of their new video.

The trio will release their debut album, Guilty Of Love, on 4 March but you can watch the film for for new single When A Woman Is Around below now.

“I’ve been a great admirer of Julian House‘s artwork for a long time; from his work with Broadcast, Can, Primal Scream and his collaborations with Peter Strickland on Berberian Sound Studio and Duke of Burgundy,” Holmes tells Q of the video’s director, who’s design work includes Primal Scream’s sleeve for XTMNTR.

“This track was co-written by Tanya Mellotte and features Woody Jackson from Grand Theft Auto and the MC5’s Wayne Kramer on guitar,” adds Holmes. “It’s definitely one of my favourite tracks on the album. Keefus and Jade excelled themselves on this.”

As for the trio, Holmes explains the band came about by chance after they found themselves with a weekly residency in their adopted hometown.

“Keefus and I were both working on film scores when we met in LA,” he says. “He took me to a venue called the Rotary Room in Los Feliz, where I met Jade. The three of us contributed to a regular tuesday night gathering of of great musicians, an informal ensemble including Woody, Gus Seyffert who has played with Beck and The Black Keys, Jay Bellerose who works with T Bone Burnett and Deantoni Parks who is in John Cale’s band.

“It was a right time, right place kind of thing – like meeting a total stranger from your hometown in a foreign country, a language thing. Inspired by the music we were hearing at Los Feliz and the shared language of cinematic music Jade, Keefus and I began experimenting, re-interpreting. We formally came together as a band at Vox Studios in Hollywood, in a studio almost original to its beginnings in 1936 with a rotating cast of musicians started to realise the Unloved vision.”
