The 23rd Raindance Film Festival comes to London this autumn, and they’ve called in one Jesus And Mary Chain‘s founders to trail the event.
Douglas Hart has shot a trailer for the event, which takes place at VUE Piccadilly between 23 Septemeber and 4 October, entirely on Super 8 especially for the festival, which is premiering on Q below.
“Super 8 is the first photochemical process I fell in love with, and I am still under its thumb,” Hart tells Q of his (very) short film. “It is still accessible and easy to use. It is still the kind of intimate format that allows for spontaneity on shoots. Shooting this trailer in the woods using available light allowed us to respond instantly to every bust of sunlight through the trees, to every change in the density of the canopy.”
Initially know as Jesus And Mary Chain first bassist, Hart is now an acclaimed writer and director, and has created videos for the likes of My Bloody Valentine, The Horrors, The Vaccines, The Libertines, Paul Weller, Primal Scream and more.
The film festival meanwhile will screen several music films across its run, including a preview of Don Letts’ new film, Two Sevens Clash, which shot on Super 8 itself examines the reality of the punk reggae party and boasts a wealth of unique footage.
