Ghostpoet is set to return with new album Shedding Skin later this year (2 March) – and Q has the premiere of the video for his first single Off Peak Dreams which you can watch below now.

The clip’s director Liam St Pierre was given a budget matching the average monthly salary in the UK and asked to make a film about the nature of city living, hence the video was made for the princely sum of £2068 (compared to most video budgets which start at £5000).

“The Off Peak Dreams video is a visual outpouring or an emotional release of sorts,” explains Ghostpoet, real name Obaro Ejimiwe. “The nuances of the daily grind for all to see, captured in lo-fi because life isn’t always in hi-definition. Enjoy me hearties.”

As for the song itself, Ejimiwe told Q it was inspired by a lot of people watching.

“I’ve always been observant. On the last record, I was looking much more inwardly, why I’d done things and trying to put that down on paper, the woes of life, of my life. With this one I thought, ‘You know what? I want to go back to what I was doing on the first record’ which was about observing life,” he explains. “I find it quite interesting [trying to get a sense of] current climate. There’s just a general feeling in the air at the moment: things are shit. So many people are unemployed, people’s standard of living isn’t as they would like it.”
