Mind Enterprises – AKA Andrea Tirone – releases his debut album Idealist today (5 February). With the Turin-born, now London-based producer’s record owing a debt to Afro and disco sounds he’s merged the two together for a Q playlist. “I made this mix thinking about music that is relevant to me right now, is what I’m listening everyday, what I’d like to hear in a club and what I like to dance to,” he explains. “This music has been a great inspiration for me over the last couple of years while I was writing Idealist, I think you’ll spot some similarities between the two…”
The Pool – Jamaica Running
“Great tune, someone might have an issue with LCD Soundsystem referencing this but not for me.”
Chakachas – Stories
“Amazing Belgian latin-disco band that I’ve recently discovered, love the warmth and softness of the groove.”
Joe Moks – Boys And Girls
“This to me sounds like a classic, first time I heard it I thought I knew it already for before, some kind of Beatles effect.”
Stephen Encinas – Disco Illusion
“Great disco track!”
The Funkees – Too Lay
“Here we go a bit more into funk, this groove was definitely a great inspiration for my music, such a tight band!”
Sahara All Stars Of Jos – Take Your Soul
“Pure Nigerian Disco, this is what I’d like to dance to forever, I’m actually doing it right now.”
William Onyeabor – Better Change Your Mind
“Onyeabor’s music has been recently rediscovered and I’m really glad it happened. Even if refuses to fit in any kind of genre I guess It’s now a gateway into West African music. I love the production and groove in this song, but also the anti-colonialist message, something I think has relevance today or at least is something I’m personally feeling and considering neoliberalism single thought as a form of cultural colonisation.”
George Nibason – Love Your Neighbour
“OK this is a weird lo-fi Nigerian tune that reminds me early 80s NY post-punk stuff, maybe ESG? Anyway that’s kind of music I grew up with… love message here though!”
Cerrone – Give Me Love
“I had the pleasure of remixing one track from Cerrone’s last Ep – with Tony Allen on drums, amazing. He’s a disco legend, I’ve always admired his music.”
Dicanzas Do Prenda – Snipes
“And at last a song with different vibes, great tune from 70s Angolan guitar band Snipes, this is just music that I really love to listen but didn’t influenced much my production, so far…”
