Gruff Rhys is set to release his new solo album, American Interior, next week (5 May), but you can listen to the whole record now via Q, complete with unique visuals.
The album – which is also accompanied by a documentary and an app – retraces the steps of 18th-century Welsh explorer John Evans, who walked part of the way across North America looking for a lost tribe of ‘Welsh Indians’, before joining up with the Spanish army and helping to chart the continent.
“It’s so far-fetched he might as well have been a Welsh prince who went to Mars in 1969 and stayed and had loads of kids,” Rhys tells us of the true story. “John Evans put his life on the line chasing mythology, a fantasy.”
The former Super Furry Animals man toured the US, following Evans’ route, creating the film and album in the process.
You can listen to the album in full above, accompanied by a a selection of snippets, lyrics and gifs “individually tailored to each track on the album”.
