One of Britain’s few festivals you have to take a boat to (or a helicopter if you’re feeling flush… well, unless you already live on the island), the Isle Of Wight Festival returns for 2014 on 12-15 June. Festival organiser John Giddings has put together a Playlist for Q featuring his personal picks from this year’s line-up.
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Under The Bridge
“We’ve wanted them for years and years and years and we’ve finally managed to achieve it, we have a UK and Ireland exclusive! What can I say? Their catalogue is incredible and their performances are phenomenal – They’re going to be the highlight of my weekend.”
Deap Vally – Lies
“They’re a great indie rock duo from LA. I admire their enthusiasm and I’m still blown away by the amount of noise the two of them can make, so bring it on!”
Starsailor – Four To The Floor
“Reforming Starsailor is a personal privilege for me. They’ve got such a great catalogue and James Walsh is just such a fantastic songwriter. The response to them getting back together for this year’s Isle Of Wight Festival has been incredible.”
The Pretty Reckless – Make Me Wanna Die
“I can’t believe a 21 year-old can sing like she’s been fronting a rock band for the last 40 years. I saw them in Cardiff recently and they were incredible. Can’t wait!”
Biffy Clyro – Many Of Horror
“I have seen Biffy many times before and I think they’re one of the best rock bands in the UK today. I’m very happy to have them headlining the Main Stage this year.”
The Strypes – Blue Collar Jane
“They sound like the Rolling Stones circa 1959. They’re a great rock band who have great things ahead of them.”
Travis – Why Does It Always Rain On Me
“Fran is another great singer-songwriter and the band are brilliant live. I loved their second album even more than the first. I’ve had a few jars with them in the pub until four in the morning. They’re welcome anytime!”
The Waterboys – The Whole Of The Moon
“We book acts from the past, present and future and they’re another classic. I’m looking forward to watching them perform this track on the Saturday.”
Kings Of Leon – Knocked Up
“What can you say? They’re one of the best rock bands in the world today. Their performance was brilliant last year, so I’m really looking forward to having them back at the Isle of Wight Festival.”
Suede – Beautiful Ones
“I was listening to their songs last night actually. It takes you right back to the Britpop era. I can’t believe they haven’t reformed quicker, the reaction has also been outstanding.”
