Having released their acclaimed second album Images Du Futur earlier this year, Montreal’s Sunns kick off their UK tour a week on in Brighton (13 May). However rather than tour the country, it seems the band’s dates will be something of a cinema club based on their DVD collection. Guitarist Joseph Yarmush has created Q a Playlist based on the best musical moments in the films they’ll be taking on the road with them.
Q Lazzarus – Goodbye Horses (Silence Of The Lambs)
“Insane scene in an insane movie. Insane song by someone who I know nothing about. I think some cool bands covered this once too.”
Angelo Badalamenti – Red Bats with Teeth (Lost Highway)
“Ben [Shemie, singer] doesn’t like this soundtrack. I think it’s awesome. I like the straight ahead bass line and the skronk sax.”
Radiohead – Talk Show Host (Romeo And Juliet)
“One of my favourite Radiohead songs. Good movie if you’re 15.”
Charles Wright And The Watts 103 Band – Do Your Thing (Boogie Nights)
“This scene fucked me up when I saw it. Sex mixed with death and drugs. It was too much at the time.”
Rolling Stones – Gimme Shelter (Casino)
“Heaviest Stones’ tune of all time. Sick Joe Pesci movie. I don’t know.”
Jive Talkin’ – Bee Gees (Saturday Night Fever)
“They got the beat while riding in car over a bridge. The wheels were chugging every half second. Boom, disco, smooth bass, cocaine.”
Hayden – Trees Lounge (Trees Lounge)
“Canadian movie starring Steve Buscemi. Low budget. Awesome film. This is the theme song and it’s awesome.”
Kavinsky – Nightcall (Drive)
“I liked this movie. Thoroughly entertained. I liked this song a lot too. Haven’t heard in a while, but I remember it being smooth as silk.”
Notorious B.I.G.- Juicy (Notorious)
“Threesomes? Making up rhymes on the spot? Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis… Everyone knows that line.”
Bernard Hermann – All The Animals Come Out At Night (Taxi Driver)
“My favourite movie. Smooth jazz. Seemed to work well with rainy, night scenes of NYC in the seventies.”
