Iceland’s Of Monsters And Men are in the middle of a three night residency at London‘s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire (5-7 March). How they got there could be down to these ten songs, as the band’s Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir and Ragnar Þórhallsson have created us a Playlist of “songs to get the creative juices flowing.
Feist – The Bad in Each Other
“The instrumentation is incredible. Feist is awesome and I feel like I’m a cowboy in a dessert.”
Alt-J – Something Good
“We’ve played a lot of gigs with them and this song always gets us.”
Daughter – Smother
“The lyrics are incredible and honest.”
Radiohead – Nude
“There’s really nothing to say on this one. It’s Radiohead.”
Jack White – Sixteen Saltines
“Simply badass!”
NB Nude is currently unavailable
Bibio – Ambivalence Avenue
“Gets us in the mood every time.”
Bon Iver – Blood Bank
“A beautiful that always reminds the band of good things.”
Joni Mitchell – Both Sides Now
“It’s really cool to listen to the difference between the original version and when she plays it more recently. It’s such a mature song for someone to write so young, and then to see a mature women sing it and it has new life to it.”
Ray Charles – Georgia On My Mind
“One of the greatest musicians that this world has seen and one of the best songs.”
Hjaltalín – Ethereal
“An Icelandic band, from their most recent album. This song was written almost by mistake, by the singer just coming into the studio and singing, without any plan. Again, a beautiful song.”
