Sorting through the week’s new singles and songs that have surfaced online over the last seven days, Jamie Skey (@jamie_skey) presents five songs that have caught his ears this week…

St Anne born beatsmith Nate Connelly harbours something of a double life when it comes to producing music. After graduating from Leeds College of Music in 2003, Connelly embraced the world of film scoring, yet he has a penchant for the house and drum’n’bass sounds of rave. Finally on the chattering, cut-and-paste thump of Fire 7842, he fuses his two side’s together to blazing effect.

Boundary-dissolving London group Troyka serve up a strange, exotic beast in the form of Arcades, which blends roiling blues-funk, avant-jazz guitar and flighty rock rhythms.

Despite the misanthropic name, El Paso’s Heartless Bastards conjure a sound that is positively brimming with sunshine and good-time twang. Latest single Black Cloud is suggestive of The Byrds sharing a cup of electric kool aid with Syd Barret.

One of metal’s most robust and persisting survivors, Lamb Of God return Still Echoes – heralding forthcoming album VII: Sturm Und Drang – an eviscerating document of frontman Randy Blythe’s stretch in Prague’s Pankrac Prison surrounding his trial for manslaughter following a stage invasion mishap in 2010.
