Sorting through the week’s new singles and songs that have surfaced online over the last seven days, Jamie Skey (@jamie_skey) presents five songs you need to hear this week…

DFA records veteran Delia Gonzalez is returning to the label with a series of solo releases, including the kosmiche-inspired LP The Days Of Mars, with a hauntingly melodic solo-piano set, In Remembrance. The extended EP will be accompanied by four 16mm ballet dance films, which reflect the plaintive meditative states of the music, as evidenced by In Remembrance IV.

Blog-igniting, Amsterdam-based producer Applescal is well regarded for his spangly, interspatial take on house music. His latest threshold-crossing transmission is aptly titled Airports, because much like these transitional areas in question, the tune seems to float in a dreamily liminal space between the bedroom and the dance floor.

Primed with only a cello and her voice, left-field chamber-pop enchantress Laura Moody conjures soul-stirring missives that chill to the bone. Using every part of her instrument’s body in her musical constructions, Moody creates contemporary classical cuts that jag and thrill, like on the goose-pimple-inducing beauty of Call This Time Love.

The bedsit-haunting hymns of St Helens-based sad-pop trio Spectral Chorus were born out of joblessness, bad meals, pawn shops and nervous breakdowns. As a result, destitution is writ large in shaky-handed lettering over the shivering guitars and basement-scouring harmonies of Old House.
