Emerging London producer Clas Tuuth has given his first three EPs a James Bond-style ‘00’ identity, and aptly his deconstructed after-party vibes grant all listeners a licence to chill (!). The frosty, wine-glass tinkling melodies of Cliff – one of three tracks on 003 – favourably rubs shoulders with the folktronica’s elite, ie the likes ofFour Tet or Gold Panda.
Celebrating their 20th year with the release of their 13th LP, La Isla Bonita, avant-garde rockers Deerhoof’s music resembles the soundtrack to the kind of party where the punch bowl’s been spiked with strong psychedelics and everyone’s dancing deliriously like Thom Yorke. As the title implies, Paradise Girls is laced with a tropical fervour and topped off with full-frontal, feminist funk.
Canada’s Slow Down Molases sound like they’ve been swapping notes with London krautrock-heads Toy or The Horrors, thanks to the drug-drenched psych-pop of Sumner Sun, which burns through the stratosphere with star-spangled guitars and heat-shimmer organs.
Alt-rock trio Chevelle were last seen on these shores earlier this summer when they delivered a storming set at Download festival. Returning with new single Hunter Eats Hunter from their forthcoming album La Gargola, the US trio prove that they’re one of the most uncompromising and devastatingly melodic alternative metal bands doing the rounds since Helmet.
With a little help from their friend, Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Jacob Portrait, who co-wrote and produced The Amazing Heart Attack, Wampire have created music every bit as eccentric and camp as their name (and image).
