Swedish five piece industrialists Saigon are of a piece with their avant-rave country folk The Knife thanks to Exo Exo’s buzzsaw hooks, dive-bombing synths and honeyed female vocals.
Leamington-born indie pin-up Tom The Lion doesn’t so much as roar as growl ongingly like Coldplay’s Chris Martin with a splinter in his paw. Building up to the release of his debut album, the singer unleashes Sleep, a shining slab of brooding ambient rock that will place him among an intense indie pride featuring the aforementioned Oxford megastars, The Maccabees and Bon Iver.
Art rock trio These Ghosts, bolstered by sui generis producer Matthew Herbert, who’s teamed up with Goldsmiths university to create the diverse, fertile NX Records, continue to show that south-east London is a nexus for inspired artistic enterprising at the moment with the wonky, Radiohead-like chant of Where Two Lines Meet.
The Incredible Magpie Band is an apt title for this rollicking Wakefield five piece, as they infuse a range of transatlantic styles (early rock’n’roll, Merseybeat, skiffle) into their infectious sound. Their debut double A-Side single This Chose Me/Money has already turned the head of Liam Gallagher and will surely take beer-soaked caverns near you by storm anytime soon.
Seattle math rockers Minus The Bear have pieced together a new album, Lost Loves, from rare and unreleased tracks written over the last seven years and The Lucky Ones is an epic stop gap while fans wait for the band to record their follow up to last year’s Infinity Overhead.
