Tony Iommi received the Gibson Les Paul Award at yesterday’s (19 October) Q Awards In Association With Absolute Radio – and speaking afterwards he suggested there’s a lost Black Sabbath out there.
“I wrote loads of stuff for another album but we didn’t do one,” he tells Q in the exclusive, backstage video interview below, although he adds that there is unreleased material recorded when the band made 2013 album 13 that’s yet to see the light of day.
“I’ve loved Sabbath, I’ve been with it since day one – 48 years, and I’ve only member who’s stayed there,” he adds of his career with the band. “I believed in it and I lived and breathed it – that’s why I’ve had umpteen divorces and God knows what else!” [laughs]
Iommi also explains why he first picked up a guitar, his early influences and his attempts to innovate and develop his signature guitar sound.
