Merely 27, The View frontman Kyle Falconer and his band are currently working on their fifth studio album, due out in the spring. The record is being produced by Gus Oberg and The Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr. In a guest column for Falconer explains how he ended-up working with one of his heroes.
“We’re so pumped to be in the studio with Albert & Gus. I couldn’t think of one current band who isn’t influenced by The Strokes and it’s a huge honour to be working with these guys. It came about really casually actually, we met Albert in a pub in Camden and sent him a few of our new demos which he loved and it’s grown from there really.
We’ve had quite a long break (for us) this time in between recording which has given us time to reflect on the direction that we want to go in musically as well as allowing us more time to write a collection of songs. We’ve kept this album quite raw whilst recording so that we will have the ability to play it live as well ,if not better, as it sounds on the record.
I would say that this is the closest sounding to our debut (Mercury Nominated) album Hats Off To The Buskers. We’ve been emailing songs in advance of recording to Albert & Gus so we’ve all had a strong idea of how the album is going to be shaped. They’ve taken us out of our comfort zone & we’re not afraid to try new things with this record arrangement-wise.
Their style of recording is worlds apart from what we’ve grown used to. Usually when we’re in the studio we’ll be chemically enhanced and nobody sleeps but this time it’s completely different. We’re on the outskirts of Hamburg where we have accommodation and catering attached to the studio and only one small local pub for the occasional tipple. You could say that Albert & Gus are a good influence! We’re completely in the zone & 100% focused on the task in hand. We can’t wait to unleash this music…
