Setting up in Victoria Park, London, for one day (19 July), Citadel Festival is a new edition to the summer’s outdoor music agenda. To introduce us to the event, booker John Empson has made Q this Playlist with some of his personal selections from this year’s bill. “Citadel is London’s brightest new festival, set to encapsulate the pleasures of the perfect summer Sunday – good music, good times, roasts, talks, debates, sports and games – and even a roller disco,” he declares. “We have two incredible headliners in the form of Ben Howard and Bombay Bicycle Club, with stages curated by Communion and Soundcrash, but there’s much more to Citadel than the music.” The ‘sports day sign up’ on their website might have something to do with that… whacky!

Ben Howard – Small Things

“One of the many spine-tingling highlights from his latest album I Forget Where We Were.”

Bombay Bicycle Club – Carry Me (pictured)

“Uptempo, instantly catchy, this track represents everything I love about Bombay Bicycle Club.”
