Jane Weaver is on the bill for The Q Stage at The Great Escape Festival on 16 May at St George’s Church. We spoke to the singer-songwriter about what she’s got planned for the gig, which also features Gaz Coombes, Bill Ryder Jones and Soley – plus listen to an extended version of her recent Absolute Radio The Q Show interview below.
What’s your best Brighton memory?
The last time I went to Brighton was on my Hen do years ago, it was quite civilised in places and perhaps one of the best weekends of my life. The hotel my friends and I had booked was quite fancy and the first night whilst at reception 12 Hell’s Angels walked in fully clad in all the gear and checked in, I remember the flabbergasted look on a lot of the other guests faces, but of course we ended up befriending them all and drinking with these guys in the hotel bar who were all from different chapters and different countries. After a few drinks I told them it was in fact my hen do and I was getting married the week after, they told me very seriously not to get married but come on the road with them and they would look after me and protect me for life… it was quite a romantic offer really.
What have you got planned for your set? Any surprises?
My friend is currently working on a costume for me, she’s is very good at this type of thing, we’ve got some interesting ideas on the boil, I think as festival season is upon us its important to get some sort of costume is on the go, I’m not 5 years old anymore or a flamboyant fashion designer so it looks weird dressing up unless you’ve the excuse that you are actually performing somewhere. I’m not sure how big the stage is but I’ll be covering as much ground as I can.
Give us your pitch to get The Great Escape’s roaming crowds through the door.
We promise a performance akin to to a club scene in a post-apocalyptic film made in the 1980’s.
Makeup, costume, all the hits and no messing around… Wallop!

Hell’s Angels..so misunderstood.
