Taking place in various city’s across the UK, the This Feeling club night has picked up a few admires over the years, including the likes of Noel and Liam Gallagher, Idris Elba and Kasabian who kicked off the first one. As it celebrates is eight birthday with a month of shows tonight (3 October), including Eugene McGuinness playing a special This Feeling Manchester In Association With Jack Daniel’s, on 10 October at The Ruby Lounge, another of its famous fans, Alan McGee, has paid tribute to favourite rock’n’roll night out in a guest column for Q.
This Feeling is the most important club night in tlhe UK. As untrendy as it is too the London-centic radio people the public as in Scotland and north of Watford still want rock’n’roll. This Feeling work from a base of ‘if we like it we book it’. I love the attitude in years to come people will no doubt realise founder Mikey Jonns was right but the media isn’t catering for the Oasis/ Kasabian/ Libertines audience anymore and that audience still is massive.
Music in 2014 is to be honest boring if you only listened to what the media is filtering down to us all. Rock’n’roll music is a genre and will probably never die. At the moment it’s unfashionable but in truth it will probably be with us all forever. The actual under representation of rock’n’roll music in the media is frightening and that is where This Feeling are streets ahead.
They mean it and are not ashamed.
Neither are the people who come to that club for Liam Gallagher to some kid who is on benefits rock’n’roll music will never die and the media cannot kill it. This Feeling is the flagship for rock’n’roll in 2014 the way Creation Records was in 1991 I suppose that’s why I love it. As unfashionable as it is I do love rock’n’roll music.
