In a bit of ambition box ticketing, The Twilight Sad are set support The Cure on the world tour, plus play a host of other dates this year including a stop this year at Drumlanrig Castle for the Electric Fields festival (26-27 August) alongside the likes of Primal Scream and Everything Everything. Catching him before he heads around the globe, frontman James Graham answers five questions for Q.

WHO would play you in the film of your life?

So, taking into consideration all the different elements of the role, such as having to master the Glaswegian accent and slang, my miserable demeanour, my lanky Mr. Bean features, internal angst, having to pull off prosthetics to replicate my big ears…..I’d say the only person that could pull this role off…..would be……the greatest actor of our generation…..Daniel Day Lewis.

WHAT are you currently working on?

We’re at home at the moment, drinking, watching films, getting into trouble, basically all the things that we write music about. We’re writing new songs whilst preparing to go on a world tour with our favourite band The Cure in May that runs through to December.

WHY do you do that thing you do?

There’s a couple of reasons: we love what we do, we wouldn’t be still doing it after 10 years and four albums under our belt. I don’t want to sound weird or strange (I am both) but I use writing music as a form of therapy to get things off my chest that I wouldn’t be able to talk about in everyday life. I don’t really know what I’d do or be like without this outlet. Also, there’s no greater feeling than playing live. Also, I haven’t got a fucking clue what I’d do if I wasn’t in this band. I’m useless at everything else; some people would say I’m useless at this but fuck them.

WHERE do you see yourself in ten years?

Hopefully still doing what I’m doing but a bit older, wiser, greyer, less of a prick, an ambassador for all things miserable.

WHEN will there be a harvest for the world?

When all the Harvester restaurants combine to make “The Ultra Carvery” for all the world’s nations to feast upon. Either that or when everyone stops shopping at Tesco and goes to Lidl instead. They have a really good bakery section and I got a week’s shopping for about £15 the other day. It’s really good value for money.
