Third Eye Blind return with new album Dopamine on 30 October and will kick off a UK tour on Bonfire Night (5 November) at Manchester’s The Academy 2. For further insight the band’s Stephan Jenkins answered five questions for us.
WHO would play you in the film of you life?
Jake Gyllenhaal by virtue of height. Or Maybe Javier Bardem?
WHAT are you currently working on?
Getting from Indonesia to Ohio by way of San Francisco. Burning Man is supposed to happen in there somewhere but do I really want to put on that stupid fucking top hat again and run around the desert with bourgeois white people on drugs? And btw I’m actually driving to the airport right now.
WHY do you do that thing you do?
People ask me that all the time. And I always tell them “Well, for God’s sake’s someone’s gotta do it”. Then I think about all the pain and hope that gathers in me from participating in this world and how I feel compelled to knit it together into something exalted and send it out as a gift to the universe, but I don’t really know how to talk about such things. So I usually just shrug and say “I dunno”.
WHERE do you see yourself in ten years?
Living in San Francisco making Indie-rock records with a little of that hip-hop flair.
WHEN will there be a harvest for the world?
I’m not sure I understand the question. What exactly will we be harvesting? Sorghum? Organs? Is this question rhetorical? It brings to mind a caption on a greeting card featuring a gauzy sunset, the kind you’d see at a Christian Science book store. I guess this could also be an opportunity to talk about renewable energy, insect consumption as viable protein source, etc. But again I’m just not sure. So I’m going to play it safe and say next Tuesday at 4pm. Sharp.
