On Friday (28 November) Gary Numan plays a one off show at the Hammersmith Apollo with Gang Of Four supporting. However they’re not the only warm-up he’s had. Q put five questions to our electric friend.
WHO would play you in the film of your life?
Me probably. I doubt anyone else would be interested.
WHAT are you currently working on?
I’ve just got back from the latest North American tour and I’m just approaching the final stages of the Splinter album campaign, last show in London on Friday. As soon as that is done I start serious work on the next album but I’m already putting down ideas for it. I’m writing a novel, although I’ve been saying that for years so it’s not exactly racing along. More a hobby than a career objective at the moment. I’m mixing a live DVD from a show back in the summer, working on a collaboration with a new US band, writing the second volume of my autobiography and writing music for film.
WHY do you do that thing you do?
It’s given me the best life I could imagine, even when things have been hard. It can be very exciting, incredibly satisfying, rewarding and challenging. It can also be unpredictable, even frightening when things aren’t going well, but that’s all part of it. It’s a never ending mountain to climb, always another peak to reach.
WHERE do you see yourself in ten years?
I love my life so I hope to be doing the same things that I’m doing now, recording and touring, but I’d like to be doing even more things creatively. If the film score ambition works out, and I enjoy doing it, I hope that I’m also writing music for film on a regular basis. If the story writing works out I’d also like to be writing books regularly. Mostly though, I just hope I’m still alive and healthy.
WHEN will there be a harvest for the world?
Never going to happen. Religion, greed and corruption will make sure of that.
