Having recently collaborated with Xperia Access Q Awards nominee Ella Eyre on a cover of Bastille’s Pompeii for the Bose’s Urban Conductor events, which will take place in London and Manchester, composer and Bond-sountracker David Arnold has answered some questions for us.
WHO would play you in the film of your life?
Clyde the Orangutan from the Clint Eastwood film Every Which Way But Loose.
WHAT are you currently working on?
I’ve just collaborated with singer-songwriter Ella Eyre to record a new version of Bastille’s Pompeii for the Bose Urban Conductor, you can create your own mixes of the song from stems I’ve made at both events. I’ve also composed the music for new West End musical Made In Dagenham at the Adelphi Theatre. It stars Gemma Arterton and opens its doors for previews from the 9 October.
WHY do you do that thing you do?
When I was eight years-old I wrote in a school book saying that I wanted to be a musician or an actor. I guess my career is a mixture of both. I have to be a musical storyteller in the films I compose for and now in the theatre too. But mainly I enjoy being part of the “thing” that makes the sound: the players and the instruments.
WHERE do you see yourself in ten years?
I was asked this question 20 years ago and back then I said that I hoped I’d be doing what I did then in the future and luckily I am. I love what I do and if in ten years I’m still working with artists and creating music then I’ll be happy.
WHEN will there be a harvest for the world?
If they’re using fertilizer, around September.
