With the trio set to release single Real next week (17 February) before headlining the new Hackney Oslo in London on 5 March, we caught up with the band’s frontman and sometime actor Olly Alexander‘s to find out why they’ve been making “dance music with a sad, bruised heart”.
WHO would play you in the film of your life?
Mikey would want Kyle McClachlan, Emilio Estevez has that whole repressed anger thing that Emre’s got going on and I think Meryl Streep would be up for the challenge of playing Olly.
WHAT are you currently working on?
We’re writing a lot of new material, our music has evolved a lot since we’ve been together and we’re at a place where we’re happier with the stuff we’re creating, I guess we’d describe it as dance music with soul? Or dance music with a sad, bruised heart? There’s always more stuff to learn and places you can grow, new ideas are key. Other than that we’re focusing on reducing our anxiety levels and drinking more water (Mikey needs to drink less coffee)
