Why now? Here’s Destroyer’s brand new video for Girl In A Sling, which is taken from new album Poison Season, which is released in 28 August. “I’m not exactly sure what this video is about,” main man Dan Bejar tells Q. “I was not involved in its conception, nor am I more than an actor in it. A love song to a sick thing, sung by someone equally ill. I guess the video is personal in that I am serenading the abandoned city of Vancouver, the city where I was born. The video feels very much about ghosts and hauntings and abandonment, in both a decrepit and surrealist way. The super-imposed women’s faces. The out-of-nowhere slomo ecstatic cackle. All those dissolving post-war homes. The darkroom feels like a super 20th Century relic. A lurker’s pit. The liquids and red light all somehow gross. The perfect way to document a city erasing itself, the disappearing world.” And as for the track itself, “The song is a ballad, but it is uncomfortable and ill-at-ease, explains Behar. “Much like the singer in front of the camera in this music video…”
