Sir Tom Jones presented James Bay with his Q Awards yesterday (19 October) though in our exclusive backstage interview the singer admitted he was a tad envious of the honour.
Bay picked up Q Best New Act, presented by Orange Amplification, at this year’s ceremony from Sir Tom and the pair spoke jointly in a video interview you can watch below.
Recalling his own time as a new act, Sir Tom told Q: “It was 1965 for me. I would like to have a Q Award then, but the magazine has only been going 30 years. I remember I had a Grammy in 65: Best New Act so that was like this.”
He also revealed he has bestowed his own accolade on Bay, buying a copy of the Hitchin singer-songwriter’s debut album, Chaos And The Calm.
