Why now? Cave has contributed his cover of this 1892 song to a concept album The Gay Nineties – Olde Tyme Music, which features only other versions of the track. Katy Perry, Tyler The Creator, Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh and Metallica’s Kirk Hammett are among the other contributing to the record which is a spin off of Mark Ryden’s art exhibition The Gay Nineties West which opened at Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles earlier this month (3 May). Profits from the record go to Little Kids Rock a nonprofit that revitalizes music education in disadvantaged schools.
